Restructuring within Delhaize prompted him to leave the company in 2015.

Descheemaeker has also played a key role at the brewing company AB InBevwhere he worked from 1996 to 2008. As Strategy Manager and external growthhe contributed to the merger between Interbrew and the Brazilian brewery AmBev in 2004, leading to the creation of one of the world's largest brewing companies. In 2008, he became a member of the AB InBev Board of Directors, representing the family shareholders associated with the holding company Eugénie Patri Sébastien.
