Founded in 1980 by Donald Muyllea cabinet-maker, and his wife Yvette Claeys, the business took root in an old barn in Oekene, Roeselare. The innovative concept behind Dovy was to produce high-quality kitchens at an affordable price by cutting out the middleman. In 1981, barely a year after its creation, the first showroom opened in Roeselare, displaying just four kitchens. This marked the beginning of success for the small family business, which saw its production space expand to 10,000 m² in just a few years.

In addition, Dovy Keukens took a competitive lead in 1989 by incorporating a natural stone department, enabling customers to choose their stone worktops directly at the factory. Expansion continued with the opening of numerous other showrooms throughout Flanders, including cities such as Brugge, Gent, and Mechelen.
