Christian Teunissen has always been fascinated by studentenkamers (student rooms). His interest in this field dates back to his university years, when he experienced life in student accommodation. After starting his career in the insurance industry at Fortis AGfounded his own insurance firm in 2000AdB Business Partners, which he subsequently sold to Van Dessel Verzekeringen in 2005. Since then, he has focused on the development and management of a vast real estate portfolioas a developer and investor. Christian Teunissen has an estimated fortune of over €248,289,298.

In 2007, Teunissen completed his first student housing project with 45 rooms. Following this experience, he was approached by his former student landlord to buy one of his buildings. Teunissen seized the opportunity, investing all his capital and taking out a substantial loan.. This mentor helped him renovate the building and enter the student accommodation business.

Teunissen has consolidated its operations under the banner of Xior Student Housinga company in continuous growth. Under the financial direction of Frederik Snauwaert, Xior went public in 2015becoming the first and only listed company in Europe to specialize in student accommodation. This initial public offering valued at 200 million euros in assets, was a turning point for the company, whose assets have now risen to between 1.1 and 1.5 billion euros. Christian Teunissen has succeeded in building an enormous estate worth over 250 million euros.

Xior's workforce has grown from 12 to 70, with Teunissen now recognized as the 'kotbaas' (student accommodation owner) for 9,000 students. The student accommodation market has become increasingly international and professional, with ever stricter regulations on minimum dimensions and fire safety. This change gradually squeezed small private owners out of the market.

Xior Student Housing is firmly established in Belgium, while exploring expansion opportunities in other European countries. Xior's activities include the acquisition, development and management of student real estate. Their portfolio includes student residences not only in Antwerp, but also in the Netherlands and Spain, reflecting the company's international expansion. Frederik Snauwaert and Christian Teunissen have successfully built this company to over 1 billion in valuation and recently Fernand Huts has invested over 80 million euros.
