Imperbel-Derbigum: €35.78m revolution in Waterproofing and Solar Roofs

Imperbel

Specialized in roofing, Imperbel, better known under the brand name Derbigumis distinguished by its international scope, while proudly displaying its Belgian heritage. The company, based in Lot, has been manufacturing waterproofing membranes since 1932, and has benefited from the combined expertise of the Blake, de Goussencourt and Van de Pol families.

A pioneer in innovation, Imperbel has brought to market a revolutionary roofing membrane based on natural oils, unlike traditional petroleum-derived bitumens. This innovative product meets all the quality requirements of bituminous coatings, and has an impressive durability of 20 to 30 years.

The company has also shown an inclination for sustainability by setting its sights on the solar roofs. For this purpose, Derbi-finance was created to offer financing solutions for photovoltaic installations, demonstrating our commitment to renewable energies.

Under the direction of Johan Symoenswho took over as CEO from André De Smet, Imperbel consolidated its presence in the Middle East with an office in Dubai, underlining its global expansion while preserving its Belgian roots.

However, prior to 2022, the company was facing a steady decline in market share and a series of loss-making financial years, despite its proven reputation and expertise. The company's return to profitability attracted the attention of Kingspan Group plc, an Irish company which expressed its interest in Imperbel through a buyback offer which was subsequently accepted by the Belgian shareholders, reflecting a strategic turning point for the company and creating a wealth of over €35,780,000.
